Peace & Love in 2026
I first celebrated this quote at the tail end of 2009 by printing it as a large vinyl poster for a relatively-short-lived REMO store on the corner of Bondi Road and Imperial Avenue in Bondi. The quote continues to resonate and make me smile. I really like how it starts with the stuff about laughing “often and much”.

“Cornucopia of Curiosity. My wife Jane had an English teacher Mr. Bristow who berated restless students with the words, “Girls, to be interesting, you must be interested.” And so it is with Remo and REMORANDOM, which is a cornucopia of curiosity. I’d visit and buy REMO on Oxford St whenever I was visiting Sydney and then had the good luck for Remo to be the first person I met at an early TED conference in Monterey. Two Antipodeans in a room full of Silicon Valleyites; there must have been a Downunder homing device. Our liege, TED founder Richard Saul Wurman, is motivated by his ignorance. His mother used to say to him after school, “Ricky, did you ask any good questions today?” My favourites in REMORANDOM are Serendipity (fortuitous connection or discovery out of the blue [good not bad]), Ikigai (reason for being), Jantelagen (put society ahead of the individual), NATO Phonetic Alphabet (H for HOTEL), and Untranslatable Words (Schadenfreude!). REMO and Dictionary don’t quite mesh as a brand, but REMORANDOM has a ‘Dictionary of The Very Interesting’ in its future.”
