I too was enthusiastic about What Three Words until I saw this: https://youtu.be/SqK0ciE0rto. Sure, some of the criticisms are found in other systems but, with the stated aim of facilitating universal addressing, a number of issues are potentially fatal.

Still all credit to WTW for opening up a new way of thinking about geolocation.

Thanks for pointing us all to that video Chris. Very interesting – although I had mixed feelings as I was watching it. It was a really thorough critique, and really well produced – but I found much of it to be a bit pedantic, e.g. the strange or naughty word combinations could be seen to be as much of a feature as a bug. Clearly W3W has its shortcomings, but it's also about not letting perfect get in the way of much better. I also found it a bit odd that Steele was on the one hand critical of their moves to protect their IP – but on the other hand acknowledging their need become profitably sustainable.
